BUSHEL + PECK
Made from unsprayed apples from gardens and traditional orchards all over Gloucestershire, David Lindgren’s philosophy is to create ‘cider done simply’ – that means no juice concentrates, added flavours or colours go into these ciders. At the heart of the business is the provenance of the fruit – David collects around 30 different apple and pear varieties for his ciders and perries from a number of local sources which gives each bottle a unique flavour year on year.
Rather than classing each cider as sweet, medium or dry, the bottles are colour coded so you know what kind of cider you’re going to get – green means ‘Fresh + Crisp’, a cider made from eating apples; red is ‘Rich + Mellow’, generally made with cider apples for a tannin ‘oomph’; yellow and orange means ‘Smooth + Subtle’, used for Bushel + Peck’s delicate, refined perries while purple indicates ‘Slow + Easy’, made with a bend of cider and eating apples.
Bushel + Peck also produces limited edition single variety, bottle-conditioned ciders which show off individual apple flavours – for example, there’s The Colonel, a celebration of Ashmead’s Kernel apples, The Gribble, made from Yarlington Mill apples and Delicious, Golden, made from Golden Delicious apples.
