CACKLEBEAN EGGS
Paddy and Steph Bourns have created a true hen haven at Cackleberry Farm, nestled at the foot of a hill just outside Stow-on-the-Wold. Their rare breed flocks all have complete free range of the 12-acre site and live in traditional chicken houses with plenty of perches.
Hen welfare is a priority, so the birds are fed a natural diet that’s rich in nutrients to promote good egg-laying, and have access to shade, shelter, and even a radio to keep them company in their sheds! There is no beak clipping and the chickens are all hatched on the farm.
During the day, they forage in small flocks, in the lush pasture that are sown with herbs for the hens to nibble. This reduces their stress, resulting in happier hens and the best quality eggs.
The farm is famous for the Arlington White egg, boasting a beautiful white shell with a golden yolk, and which has been featured on the menus of many top chefs, and has even had some TV appearances, including Masterchef!
But it’s not just the flavour of these eggs that sets them apart – the packaging is exquisite, hinting at the treasures nestled inside the egg box!
