HOGAN'S CIDER
When Allen Hogan started making cider as a hobby in 1985 he soon caught the bug and spent the next 20 years perfecting his brews. It wasn’t until he sold his first drop at Stratford Farmers’ Market that the idea of a business began to grow. Fifteen years later, Hogan’s Cider is one of the Cotswolds’ best-known cider producers, with a range of multi award-winning ciders that are sold all over the world.
Despite their global success and a snazzy brand redesign, Hogen’s ciders are still celebrated for the purist, traditional methods used in their production. They contain 100% pressed apples (or pears for the perries) that are sourced from local, independent growers, with nothing else added that doesn’t need to be there. The length of fermentation time depends on the weather – it takes longer if it’s particularly cool outside – as the sugar from the apples is converted to alcohol.
As well as the core range of ciders, Allen has experimented with other flavours, including the addition of elderflower, raspberry, wild yeast and even a spicy mulled cider, plus a low-alcohol version, High Sobriety. All ciders are naturally gluten-free and suitable for vegans.
