With eight generations of milling expertise in the family, it’s not surprising that Matthews Cotswold Flour is the go-to supplier of fine flours for both professional and home bakers.

The story began in the 1700s when Marmaduke Matthews started to sell seeds from his barn in Oxfordshire. This set the tone for a Matthews family fascination with grain, wheat and barley, eventually leading to the creation of the family mill on the banks of the River Evenlode, overlooking Shipton-under-Wychwood in 1912. Today, the mill houses a thriving enterprise, run by father and son team, Paul and Bertie Matthews.

Matthews Cotswold Flour can boast two hundred years of milling and grain knowledge that has been passed from father to son over generations. But with that tradition, there has also been innovation along the way. It was current guardian, Paul Matthews’, vision to focus on bread flour, in particular organic flours, that has carried the company through the last few decades. And it is his son Bertie’s marketing and tech expertise that has ensured that bakers around the UK know about the range of the quality flours produced by Matthews today.
