WARNER’S UPTON WELCOMES THE COMMUNITY ON OPENING DAY
The new Warner’s store opened its doors at the end of May, ready for the Jubilee celebrations, and it’s been non-stop ever since and with good reason: the store is unique in that it stocks a range of local produce from over 70 local suppliers alongside Morrison’s own-brand ranges, offering customers a greater choice for their trolleys.
Competition winners from Upton Primary school helped cut the ribbon with Michael Warner, father of owner Guy. Upton Mayor, Shirley Dobbin was also on hand to help when the scissors wouldn’t cut the ribbon! Members of the school choir also treated the queuing customers to a song or two. The first 50 customers were treated to a free bottle of prosecco, courtesy of Warner’s.
“I love it because I can do my daily shop here thanks to the Morrison’s prices, but I can also treat myself to something special,” says store customer Emma Pearson. “I like that I can easily support local producers without having to make a special journey elsewhere – I can’t get enough of Beau’s Bakehouse brownies, and the fresh bread from La Parisienne is worth making a daily trip for!”
As with all new ventures, especially ones that open in the middle of the country’s largest celebrations, there have been teething problems along the way, but the Warner’s team are working hard to make sure that customers have the best experience possible.
“We’re delighted with the response we’ve had so far, despite some early supply issues that were unfortunately out of our control,” says store manager Mike Worrall. “One of the Warner’s strengths is customer service and we really do take on board everyone’s comments. In fact, we’ve had requests from customers for a number of lines that we don’t currently stock, so we will be looking at those over the next few weeks – watch this space!”
As well as a wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables, store cupboard items and household essentials, the store also has a huge selection of spirits, wines, beers and ciders, and a large range of COOK! frozen foods. A really big hit has been the food to go area, with hot snacks such as sausage rolls, and a selection of cakes and pastries, many made by local producers. The drinks bar is also popular, offering fresh coffee, tea and hot chocolate, freshly squeezed orange juice, Ice Eruption slush machine and a ‘Fwip’ gelato bar, perfect for cooling off this summer!
