WYE VALLEY BREWERY

If you’ve visited a pub recently in Wales and the West Midlands, chances are you’ve already raised a pint from this award-winning, family-owned brewery. That’s because Wye Valley Brewery ale and lager is stocked in over 1,200 pubs in the country, with over 12 million pints being brewed a year!

The story begins in 1985 when Guinness brewer, Peter Amor, decided to go it alone, brewing his own range of Herefordshire beer. Twelve years later, Peter’s son Vernon joined the company after studying at Young’s Brewery in London. Fast forward to today and the father and son team has expanded the business, moving premises twice to keep up with demand. From humble beginnings brewing 10 brewers’ barrels a week, the brewery now produces 800 barrels a week and continues to innovate.

Although ale was the primary product, in 2016 the team introduced their first lager, named 1985 in a nod to the brewery’s beginnings, which went on to win a number of awards including Overall Keg Champion at the 2020 SIBA International Beer Awards.

More innovation followed with the installation of solar panels, a wildlife pond and new beers brewed using experimental hop varieties. Over 80% of the hops used in the beers are from Herefordshire, but the brewery also uses exciting new hops from around the world in its developmental ranges.
